The pair first crossed paths in 1976, Bill working as a woodwind repairer and Norman a budding traditional musician, and though they discussed building flutes as early as the late 1970s, the venture didn't truly take off until they reunited in 2003 over the sale of an original Rudall & Rose. Setting up a workshop, they even reunited the very reamers each had kept from their abandoned attempt three decades earlier. Today they craft simple-system flutes informed by a deep collection of original instruments, including Rudall & Rose, Pratten's Perfected, and Prowse models.
